Club Master and Club Owner: Understanding the Terminology
Updated: 3 days ago
The highest-level role in a ClubGG Club has one official title: Club Master.
In everyday conversation, however, some poker players and Club members may also refer to that person as the Club Owner. The two terms may point to the same person conversationally, but there is an important distinction: Club Master is the official ClubGG role name.
That distinction becomes particularly important when comparing the Club Master with another official role, the Club Manager.

What Is a Club Master?
The Club Master is the highest-level administrative role within an individual Club.
The person who creates a Club initially holds the Club Master role, which carries the primary administrative permissions for managing the Club.
Depending on the available ClubGG features and settings, those responsibilities can include managing members and Agents, configuring games and tournaments, managing Club settings and reviewing reports.
The Club Master can also appoint Club Managers and adjust the permissions each Manager holds.
For a more detailed look at the role and its responsibilities, see What a Club Master Does All Day.
Why People Say "Club Owner"
"Club Owner" is not a separate ClubGG role. It is an informal expression sometimes used by Players and Club members when referring to the person who holds the Club Master role.
For example, someone in a Club conversation might casually refer to the Club Master as "the owner." In that context, both expressions may be referring to the same person.
However, whenever role terminology needs to be precise, Club Master is the correct term to use.

When to Use "Club Master"
Club Master is the terminology used for the official ClubGG role and should be used when describing permissions, responsibilities, Club structure or product functionality.
It is also the term used throughout this blog when referring specifically to the role.
Using consistent terminology becomes especially important when explaining how different Club roles relate to one another.

Club Manager Is a Different Role
A Club Manager is not another name for the Club Master.
A Club Manager is appointed by the Club Master to assist with Club administration. A Manager starts with the same capabilities as the Club Master, except requesting Union creation and disbanding the Club, and the Club Master can restrict individual permissions from there.
A Club has one Club Master and can have multiple Club Managers, and different Managers may have different permissions depending on how the Club Master configures their roles.
This makes the distinction straightforward:
Club Master is the official highest-level Club role.
Club Owner is an informal expression that may be used conversationally for the person holding that role.
Club Manager is a separate official role appointed by the Club Master.

Which Term Should You Use?
When discussing ClubGG roles, permissions or product functionality, use Club Master.
You may still hear "Club Owner" used informally in conversations between Club members. In most cases, the speaker is simply referring to the person who holds the Club Master role rather than describing a separate position.
The important distinction is between informal language and official ClubGG roles.
Club Master is the official role. "Club Owner" is an informal expression sometimes used for the same person. Club Manager is a separate role whose permissions the Club Master can adjust.
